Capstone Project Part E
Application of STEM Principles and Practices
Science and Engineering Concepts:
The most important STEM concept we will need to know is the engineering design process so we could properly plan our path to finish the project. Also, we will need to know various Inventor skills to allow us to properly model our design and work out any problems we find in the design. We may also need to know the various engineering design steps to allow us to properly prototype and test the product.
Anticipated Course of Action:
Construction Stage:
We plan on designing our prototype by using inventor software to create a model. We will then use a 3-D printer to construct our different parts and mechanisms. We plan on utilizing hard plastic as our main material and metal for minor appendages such as hinges and clasps. |
Testing Stage:
Once our prototype is created and assembled, we will test it with at least 5 different book types. We plan on testing its effectiveness with a hardbound textbook, a softcover textbook, a small hardcover novel, a soft bound novel, and an electronic tablet. |
Data Gathering Stage:
We plan on recording the data collected from the testing stage of our product. We will create a data table showing the relationship between time and ease of page turning across various book types. We also will record multiple trials of the amount of time it takes to assemble, adjust, and dissemble our product. |
